Havre De Grace Retired!

Havre de Grace was retired yesterday, she worked at Churhill that morning and due to her ankle being warm, they had her checked out.  Good thing they retired her in time so she can still be bred ($100 she's bred to Bernardini!) I'm calling bullshit on this injury, I am no vet, but cmon, a random, minor injury comes up after she dodges Plum Pretty in the Apple Blossom, the reigning Horse of the Year is getting older, and there are tougher, younger, faster, new fillies coming up to take her down.  Now if you read this blog, you know I love this horse dearly, but I think her owners are looking for a reason to retire her.  Now here is my question, are we "taking good care of our horses" or are we afraid to lose?

On their website they put a link to her xrays.

  1. If they were afraid, don't you think they would have retired her after the Breeders Cup last year?

  2. I don't like Jones/Porter realized what the older fillie/mare division was going to shape up to, with Plum Pretty, It's Tricky, Royal Delta, Awesome Maria/Feather (to name a few, not counting the 3 year olds) and now that she is HOY she will get higher wieght assignments than the others (unless she runs against the boys for her campaign).

I'm just really surprised by this, she has been putting in good workouts, if she is injured then yes, retirement is the right thing, but if she really is HOY quality then don't you think they would look to rest her? Give her some time off and then she how she works again? Something is just fishy to be where they are just throwing her into the breeding shed.

  3. I actually am wrong about sending her to the breeding shed, she's going to be sold in November, and bred next year- (which makes sense because her foal will be much younger than the rest of the age group)
